Issues/Problems:
When Nico came to us he had relatively little media - or indeed sales - experience and hoped to achieve a senior selling role at an established and progressive company.
Nico has a background in security and, whilst he has the perfect personality for media sales, it was going to be difficult to get him in front of a client with his (lack of) experience.
What MiMo did:
Monique and I recognised Nico’s potential as soon as he came to see us for the first time, and we quickly warmed to his enthusiasm. Nico finds it effortless to put people at ease, and is quick to smile in any given situation.
We talked to Nico about his ambitions and exactly the type of role he wanted from a new job. The conversation moved on and we tested his sales ability by asking him to sell us one of our own office chairs, a task which he took on valiantly. Nico continually asked for advice and it was clear that everything we said he absorbed.
Nico had the ability to succeed in sales and we spoke to him about CW Jobs; we gave him an overview of the company, its background and various pros and cons of working there. After discussing the role in depth, Nico asked to be put forward.
We agreed and concluded the meeting, promising to be in touch the next day. Monique quickly spoke to one of our contacts, Sean Mullins, who agreed to interview Nico on our recommendation. We arranged a suitable time with Nico – around his other commitments – and also arranged to meet him again to go through the interview process and offer our advice.
We met Nico after work one day in a bar close to his work, and talked him through what to expect and the research he should be doing for the position. Nico took in all the information and thoroughly researched the role, the company and what would be expected of him not just in the interview, but if and when he got the job.
Following a successful first interview, Nico was asked to do a presentation as befitted the seniority of the role. Again we arranged to meet Nico to help him prepare and we made sure he had access to all the available material he would need for his presentation.
Nico’s preparation, capacity for learning and the presence of his personality ensured that he gave a fantastic presentation. At this stage CW Jobs had two candidates - of which Nico was one - they were considering for the position; Nico was considered more of a risk due of his lack of experience but, on advice from MiMo, they took the gamble and it has paid off for them many times over.
